Intermediate training helps a dog pass the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, a standard created by the American Kennel Club (AKC). This is high school for dogs, and the CGC is the high school diploma.

At MyPack, a second set of group classes and field trips should help a dog pass the AKC’s CGC test (harder to do in a board and train). The 10 items on the test are:

  • Accepting a friendly stranger

  • Sitting politely for petting from stranger

  • Welcoming grooming

  • Loose-leash walking, owner in control

  • Walking politely through a crowd

  • Obeying “sit” and “down” and “stay”

  • Coming when called by owner

  • Behaving politely around other dogs

  • Remining confident when faced with common distractions

  • Maintaining training and manners when left with another person
