Dogs once lived in the wild. Today they mingle with humans in a human world. Dog training is about teaching your furry friend to be a “good dog” in a world with rules that aren’t instinctive to them.

Well-behaved dogs have learned how to successfully navigate in a human world. Here are several things to consider:

• Some misbehavior in dogs comes from instincts that would have served them well in the wild. Example? In the wild you may pee, bark, dig, and jump wherever and whenever you want!

• Effective trainers know how to teach the additional rules, boundaries, and limitations necessary to keep harmony between dogs and humans.

• A dog can never be good pack leader in a human world. A human leader must be the one to teach them how to behave, or the dog is set up to fail.
